Business facade improvement Pilot program sells out in Scotch Creek

Business Facade Improvement Program sells out in Scotch Creek

The North Shuswap Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Shuswap Economic Development and ETSI-BC (Economic Trust of the Southern Interior) to deliver a Business Facade Improvement Program Pilot in Scotch Creek. Businesses could apply for up to $5000/ project (or 50% of the total project value) to improve their outside business facade and the program is fully subscribed, with 5 approved applicants accessing the full $18,000 of available grant money.

We are very pleased to announce the following 5 projects and appreciate their support and interest in this new pilot program for our area.

  1. The Family Fun Centre-New awnings for exterior

The Family Fun Centre is one of our key tourism businesses in Scotch Creek area. The business offers concession food, bowling, arcade games, mini golf, laser tag, e-scooter rentals, office rental and most recently opened a new restaurant. The building had sat empty for a number of years. Since we announced the approval with the owner’s they have advised they will be completing more extensive upgrades to both the interior of the building and the landscaping.

  1. Outback Mini Self Storage -New exterior signage

This is a relatively new business to the Scotch Creek area. The property is very clean and well taken care of. Owners take pride in the work they do. The application was very thorough.

Property is a good example for other businesses in the area.

  1. Scotch Creek Car Wash-Historical Mural

The Chamber has been working with other business locations to place historical murals on the exterior wall. The murals are done with photos from our local historical society and are usually relative to the type of business or location. We have many long-time residents, business owners and original homesteaders who the historical significance is important. We have a local museum and self-driving historical tour and we see the murals as an extension of this and possibly providing another activity for visitors to enjoy.

  1. The Raven Compound-Entrance including signage and stairs

This is another relatively new business in Scotch Creek that continues to expand. Now includes a coffee shop, a snack bar, gym, retail clothing line and tents/space that vendors can rent to show their product or service. They are seeing increased traffic to their location and this entrance will provide signage and a safe place to enter the compound.

This project is not expected to be completed until spring.

  1. Be Teased-Outdoor Garden Area Façade fencing

Our last application is for new vinyl fencing to be built in the front of the venue yard. This is a new live music venue which has pivoted from being a Food Truck only, now offering an outdoor garden area with dancing, bar and food. This is a prominent busy location in Scotch Creek. The new vinyl fencing along the outdoor garden will really create a beautiful space for our locals and visitors. This project is not expected to be completed until spring.

Thanks so much for the collaborative work! These projects will bring a total value of $36,000 into the local economy with the business match portion. We are hoping we will be able to offer this program once again in 2024, possibly reaching other North Shuswap communities.
